As we wrap up this year’s PuroClean CaresTM: National Superhero Day Campaign, we thank everyone who participated. We had an impressive array of nominees, but one individual stood out above the rest. We proudly congratulate firefighter James Murad, a true hometown hero who embodies remarkable courage and composure when saving lives. Deputy Chief Jonathan Fraser and Fire Chief Michael Annese of Tamarac Fire Rescue nominated him. Murad’s fearlessness and quick thinking in the face of danger ensure public safety and inspire his fellow firefighters and the entire community.
When he’s not going above and beyond his duties as a firefighter, Murad dedicates his time to mentoring the next generation of first responders. He leads the Firefighter Cadet Program, where he imparts essential skills and knowledge to young cadets, preparing them for the demands of this challenging field. As the winner, Murad received an ensemble worthy of a superhero: a trophy, cape, medallion, and eye mask.
Leading a Life of Service
Born and raised in Davie, Florida, 33-year-old Murad always wanted to help others. At an early age, he envisioned a career that would allow him to use his athletic prowess to make a difference. A few years after high school, he joined the United States Army and served for four years, reinforcing his commitment to public service.
After receiving an honorable discharge, Murad enrolled at the University of Florida for a year, but his desire to serve the community was too strong to ignore. When a neighbor suggested he pursue a career as a firefighter, Murad realized he found his calling.
At ease with children, Murad taught EMT courses at Cardinal Gibbons High School for two years before joining the Tamarac Fire Department in 2018. Since then, he has embarked on new milestones, marrying and becoming a father, all while assuming the role of lead instructor in the cadet program.
The Murad family met with PuroClean leaders, including President and COO Steve White.
Training the Next Generation of Cadets
Two years ago, Murad spearheaded the overhaul of the cadet program, designed for young people between the ages of 14 and 18 interested in becoming EMT paramedics or firefighters. Through his guidance, cadets learn to suit up in firefighting gear, conduct search drills, and practice using hoses to direct water at structures, and more.
The cadet program travels nationwide for competitions, and this year marks its first appearance in Coral Springs, Florida. Although Murad considers himself a kid at heart, he understands the complexities of working with teenagers who need training and mentorship to succeed.
The Tamarac Fire Rescue team is proud of Murad’s efforts and dedication to saving lives.
What the Future Holds for Our Superhero Day Honoree
Murad continues to be an active presence in the community, serving with dedication at the Tamarac Fire Department. He hopes to further develop the cadet program, focusing on helping those who age out to find employment opportunities. For him, firefighting is more than just a job—it’s a way of life. He considers his fellow firefighters like family, cherishing their camaraderie through the best and worst times.
In his free time, Murad enjoys maintaining an active lifestyle. He devotes much of his downtime to his newborn son, assuming parenting duties while his wife works at the Cleveland Clinic. When he’s not saving lives, spending time with family, or working out, you might find him on the golf course, enjoying a round with friends.
