Christmas in the Mountains

PuroClean Cares

On December 21, 2024, a group of individuals met in Newland, North Carolina to distribute Christmas toys, blankets, bicycles and food to the residents of Newland and the surrounding area in Avery county. This event was led by Breleigh Atkins Rhodes of the PuroClean Property Damage Experts of Cleveland, Tennessee family. Over 200 families were assisted with food. During the endeavor, more than 1000 gifts were given, 60 bicycles and the lives of nearly 500 children were affected for good receiving coats and toys to make their Christmas brighter.

According to Carolina Public Press four deaths occurred here as a result of Hurricane Helene. There was wide devastation from the overflow of the Toe River. At least one home was swept downstream from Avery county. Many were cut off from homes or food and work by the flooding. US19E was shaved down from two lanes to one lane, and there are still places where the highway is one lane only. Breleigh visited the area with her family and husband soon after the rains abated. It was simply in her heart to help these mountain people in every way she could. She made several trips with her family throughout October and November bringing in supplies from her home in Tennessee.

Mrs. Rhodes was able to bring together a community of volunteers such as The Men and Women of Action from the Church of God with Phil and Naomi Thompson and Johnny and Crystal Caldwell, Hearts and Hands for Christ with David and Kari Rudisill, Operation Compassion with Robert and Darnell McMath, Sol Crafts with Marisol Garcia, Parkview Church of God, Freedom Baptist Church, Hudson Church of God, Jane Roberts, ELA Propane, staff of PuroClean Property Damage Experts out of Cleveland, Tennessee, friends and family and the Avery Parks and Recreation where Christmas in the Mountains was held.

Don’t let 20 fool you, this girl has a heart as big as all of Texas.
