Water Restoration

The early months of 2021 have been quite chilly, to say the least. We hope everyone is staying safe and bundled up. During the recent winter weather, a client that we have previously helped called us again. The client’s grandmother was having an electrical issue at her condo. So, we took a drive out to Westerville to provide restoration in freezing temperatures.

Warming Up and Drying Out a Condo

The client is the caretaker of his grandmother, who usually lives in this Westerville condo. However, due to a miscommunication with the electric company, the condo had no electricity nor heat when we arrived. She was luckily safe and staying with her grandson at his home. But, if the lack of electricity wasn’t bad enough, the frigid weather caused the pipes to freeze and burst, causing frozen water damage throughout the condo.

When we first arrived, the apartment was very damaged. The water lines above the first-floor living room broke and caused part of the ceiling to collapse. However, the most unusual thing we observed was that the carpet was frozen solid because of the lack of heat. In order to dry the structure, we had to first add heat because the furnace was still not working.

This job required us to make multiple trips in order to complete the restoration. The first step was getting the electricity reactivated. However, in the meantime, we brought our own portable heating devices with us. The residence was heated up to a toasty 70 degrees from there on out, which created a more comfortable and safe working environment.

Currently, we are in the process of completing the work.  Underneath the main floor is a finished basement area with wet carpet and ceilings damaged by the leak. Over the next three days, we will be restoring this area. Simultaneously, we will also be removing the personal property damaged by the water into our dumpster.  The client ended up with a surprising benefit from this because all of the items in the basement were superfluous, and planned to be discarded.
