The polar vortex of February 2021 ravaged the state of Texas with historic blizzard conditions, the likes of which had never been seen before. As part of a national response, PuroClean franchises from around the country traveled to lend a hand to the affected communities. PuroClean went down to Frisco, TX, to perform a massive water remediation job at the St. Paul Episcopal Church after burst pipes flooded the congregation area.
Texas Teamwork Combated the Consequences of the Polar Vortex
This job was large in scale. The church’s priest and the acting maintenance manager were our primary contacts. She explained that the pipes burst in the main building, a two-story tall church hall, where the congregation typically gathers. Our team working on the church premises consisted of over 20 individuals.
According to the laws of physics, when water freezes, it expands. Therefore, when water within a pipe freezes, the increased pressure on the pipe tends to make it burst, ultimately leading to flooding. And this is what happened to the St. Paul Episcopal Church during the polar vortex.
The most significant aspect of the job was drying out the large building. Our crew brought in a desiccant generator and propane tank to complete the drying process. Because these generators were so large, they each required their own PuroClean truck to tow them. These generators powered our drying equipment while we completed the remediation.
Thankfully, no other buildings, including the attached preschool, suffered water damage from the polar vortex. Since the building is so large, the job finished in mid-March. Our incredible team worked diligently with the church to make the process as easy and smooth as possible.
