Oh Danny Boy, Those Pipes Are Frozen!

Water Restoration

One frigid October afternoon, the area’s first snow ushered in a water damage epidemic, which we still talk about months later. The sudden drop in temperatures resulted in frozen pipes throughout the entire Denver area. And on that day, many of those affected homeowners called PuroClean. This is the story of that fateful freeze.

The Day of A Thousand Thaws

The day began quickly with several calls about flooded basements. Almost as if it was contagious, homeowners and tenants all needed the same type of help, on the same day. As it turns out, frozen pipes everywhere were thawing out as the temperatures rose. Sprinkler systems and water lines began to leak into people’s properties. Every member of our team worked tirelessly that day, with our franchise owners even going on calls in order to help our technicians fulfill 100% of the jobs.

The long work day continued well until midnight, and we finally got our last call. A homeowner in the Virginia Village neighborhood had a flooded basement, continuing the trend of the day. They were parents with 2 kids, and those children used the basement as their play area. Naturally, the parents were concerned that the water was contaminating the room and bringing in mud and mold.

As was the case with the other homes, the freezing weather caused the sprinkler pipe to break. The water seeped into the basement through the water bed. We had to perform decontamination and some general cleaning services before any drying could begin. Furthermore, we made a two-foot-long cut along the lower parts of the walls to remove soaked insulation. Our team could only begin on the demolition once the lead and asbestos tests were returned with a negative result.

When it was all said and done, the job took less than 5 days to complete. The clients wrote us an incredibly generous review for the work we did. And so, with the job completed, our team at PuroClean finally wrapped up one of our biggest freeze events in recent memory.
