Your local Southwest Colorado disaster restoration company

In the Four Corners Area, where Southwest Colorado meets New Mexico, Utah and Arizona, you can actually be in 4 states at the same time. This area of Southwest Colorado is also home to the Rocky Mountains where it meets the high desert and has plenty of outdoor activities. As fifth-generation Durango resident, Ryan Engle says, “I consider it a privilege to live in such a beautiful part of the country.”

Ryan was born and raised in Durango, Colorado and attended Durango High School, Fort Lewis College, and the Colorado Law Enforcement Training Academy at Trinidad State Junior College. He then served the local community as law enforcement for 22 years as a member of the La Plata County Sheriff’s Department where he retired in 2018 as the Drug Unit Commander of the Southwest Drug Task Force.  After being a public servant for most of his adult life, Ryan searched for a career where he could continue to help people that also challenged him on a daily basis.  This quest kept leading Ryan to Disaster Restoration.

“I have volunteered for several state and  local organizations to include the Colorado Drug Investigator’s Association, La Plata County Sheriff’s Office Leadership Team,  the La Plata County Methamphetamine Forum, Celebrating Healthy Communities, Durango Youth Baseball and youth sports for the City of Durango Parks and Recreation Department.  Ryan has also taught drug education for Durango Police Department’s Safety Town, Durango School District 9-R and the Bayfield School District.  You would be hard pressed to find a person more dedicated to his community than Ryan has been.

Having lived and worked in Southwest Colorado his whole life, Ryan has seen the aftermath of the fires and floods that plague this area. He says, “Southwest Colorado has four full seasons each year. In the summertime, we routinely experience forest fires, flooding, and mudslides. There are also unoccupied vacation homes and older homes which result in burst pipes in the winter. Secondary water damage such as mold occurs due to a variety of environmental factors.”

Learning from personal property disaster experiences

Ryan has personally experienced property losses on several occasions. Thus, he knows the impact these events can have on a person’s daily life. In 2013, in order to purchase his dream home, he had to sell his house quickly. After the inspector found mold in the attic and crawlspace, Ryan had a mold restoration company come to solve the issue.

This process went relatively smoothly despite the restoration company having to return after a second failed inspection. Ryan says, “It was a very stressful time and it was nice having someone come in and correct the problem. I was impressed with how the company solved the problem and I intend to take that type of service to a higher level.”

Ryan also experienced another loss that did not go as smoothly as the first. Ryan’s wife, Alayna experienced a sewage backup in her business resulting in a two-week closure. Her business lost several thousands of dollars in damages and revenue. During the cleanup process, the restoration company indicated the business could reopen after one week.

After rescheduling the clients, Alayna learned the business was nowhere being ready, despite having clients rescheduled for the same day. The clients went elsewhere for services and the business experienced additional immediate financial losses. Because of this situation, Ryan learned firsthand the importance of communication between the restoration company and all parties involved. Communication and collaboration will be a point of focus with Ryan and his team.

Having had these experiences, Ryan recognizes the importance of both communication and professionalism. With PuroClean, he provides extensive training to the team and ensures quality control through personal inspection and frequent communication. As Ryan said, “I want to learn from my own personal experiences in order to empathize with the customer and anticipate potential problems so they can be avoided.”
