Flood Water Damage, The Aftermath and Restoration

Water Restoration

There is never a “convenient” time for disaster to strike. Recently, a homeowner was away when her house flooded. Thankfully, her neighbor was routinely checking in on the house for her and called PuroClean on her behalf. So, we quickly dispatched our team to perform a water damage restoration job.

Flood Cleanup Reveals Deeper Trouble

As mentioned, the neighbor placed the initial call to PuroClean to deal with the situation. But, the homeowner lives alone in her suburban home so there was no one on location who could authorize our work. Before we could begin, we had to navigate a bit to receive proper authorization from the absent homeowner.

Once we received approval, we could finally get to work. First, our technicians began by containing the water in the basement, which, by then had seeped throughout the carpets. But, upon inspection, we noticed mold growth underneath the carpets and beneath the wooden boards that decorated the walls. As is sometimes the case with water damage restoration projects, mold added another layer to the situation.

This scope change required our team to receive additional authorization. But, with the client still being away from her home, we could not get the ok for a full day. Unfortunately, this meant we had to temporarily pull back our team from the site.

The client filed a claim with her insurance based on the discovery of mold, but the slow progress understandably frustrated her. However, once we had the green light, our team took the initiative to turn the job around, and set her mind at ease.

Our crew pulled up the affected carpets and boards to begin cleaning up the mold. The job required minor demolition to some walls so we could be sure to completely decontaminate the property. We also carefully cleaned the many loose objects in the basement that had mold on them. Once we were done, the basement and its contents were as good as new, and the once-frustrated client gave us a very complimentary review.
