Burst Pipe Floods Home and Brings Massive Mold Outbreak

When residents leave home to travel, disasters can often happen without anyone noticing. Burst pipes and floods can slowly spread across the property, leaving all sorts of damage in their wake. In these situations, the vigilance of others, typically neighbors or family, is usually the only reason why these disasters even receive responses. When this happened in an apartment in Spring Valley, PuroClean was called in to handle a much larger restoration than expected.

Massive Mold Mitigation

The residents of this unit were away on a trip when the neighbors noticed water pouring out through their back door. Naturally, they called the fire department who broke down the door and turned off the water to stop the flooding from continuing. They found a pipe that had burst which resulted in large-scale flooding, and ultimately mold, throughout the home. And this is where we come in.

We worked with a relative, as the couple who lives in the unit was out of the country when this occurred. Thanks to their quick-thinking neighbors, we were able to help control the damage. We first had to get an industrial hygienist on the scene to write a mold protocol. To mitigate the situation, we needed to understand the true scope of the job. There was a lot of content throughout the unit and a substantial amount of mold, much of it pre-existing. 

Before our crew could progress with cleaning, we needed to do a pack out of all of the moveable content into pods to be sanitized separately. Unfortunately, since this was a complex that had no driveways, the pods needed to be stored off-site. Thankfully, however, we were able to contract with a special content-cleaning company to pick up and restore the wet clothing, while we did the property. 

 In our roughly 10 days on-site, our crew was able to complete the drying and mold mitigation. The contents of the apartment were returned after being decontaminated in the pods. Everyone involved was very pleased with the final outcome.
