On August 25th, 2023, Southeast Michigan was caught in the throes of a relentless rainstorm that resulted in widespread flooding. Amid this turmoil, our Detroit-based offices, PuroClean of Waterford Township and PuroClean of Plymouth, sprang into action, dispatching a team of 20 trained technicians to respond to emergency calls.

Recognizing the severity of the situation as it unfolded, our Detroit offices quickly requested backup. As the rainy weather persisted and the need for assistance grew, we quickly mobilized an additional 8 crew members from our other offices across the Midwest. This strategic move ensured that we could provide timely aid to all those in need. In the wake of the flood, we received over 70 calls for assistance within a four-day period following the initial impact. Each call represented a unique story of despair, but among them, four cases stood out as beacons of hope amidst the chaos.

Two residential property calls we responded to bore the brunt of the damage during the storm. Fallen trees caused severe damage to the attic of one home and the upper-story bedroom of another. The immediate response was crucial, and our mitigation team arrived promptly to provide tarping services to prevent further water damage as the rain continued over the weekend. Once the storms subsided, our mitigation work commenced, involving the removal of affected drywall, insulation, and framing. These projects are ongoing, as we are collaborating with structural engineers to ensure the highest level of truss repair for these homes.

Flooding Reaches a Crawlspace in Monroe, Michigan

The floodwaters also infiltrated the crawlspace of a home in Monroe, Michigan, causing water damage to the home’s garage. Our response was swift, requiring the removal of the bottom 30 inches of drywall to facilitate proper drying. The reconstruction of this space is nearing completion, thanks to the unwavering dedication of our crews.

A commercial shoe store in a local shopping plaza in Canton, MI, faced the challenges of minor flooding during the storm. Fortuitously, they connected with us quickly once the damage occurred.
