Property damage doesn’t wait for a convenient time to strike. A young couple and their 1-week old newborn son, who live near Lake Tahoe’s shore, recently learned this unfortunate truth for themselves. The homeowner called us one evening at 9 pm because of a roof leak she feared was about to cave in. Needless to say, we got there in a hurry to help out this young family.
PuroClean on the Roof
We drove out to Incline Village near Lake Tahoe that night to evaluate the issue and see the best course of action. On arrival, we could see water running down the tongue and groove ceiling, around the beams, and down the wall. The water was coming from the large buildup of snow on the roof. Although the water damage was very apparent, it, fortunately, did not appear the roof was at risk of caving in as the client feared.
Before the roof could be repaired, the snow and ice that had accumulated would need to be removed. So, we set up a couple of air movers to help start drying the wood and then went outside to see if we could address the snow.
It was evident that the snow was melting around the chimney and seeping down into the house. It was close to 11 pm, so our options for other help were pretty limited. However, that was not going to stop us from getting the job done. We set up a ladder and climbed up on the roof to shovel the snow away and get rid of the bulk of the source moisture.
That night, we removed the source of the water and dried the structure. With the immediacy of the problem taken care of, we could get a licensed roofing company to come in and get the roof repaired.
