Emergency Response in El Cajon: A Massive Water Heater Burst

Recently at PuroClean of Clairemont, we faced a significant challenge in El Cajon that put our expertise to the test. A commercial water loss occurred due to a water heater burst line on the second floor of a vacant office building. The water damage was extensive, spreading from the second floor to the bottom floor and affecting a total of 23 rooms. After the dry-out phase, we moved on to removing unsalvageable materials. We performed 2-foot flood cuts using a Kett Saw in most of the affected rooms, removing damaged drywall and insulation. Some rooms experienced heavy damage, necessitating full demolition.

With the wall and ceiling materials removed, we bagged them and used our dump truck to haul away the large amount of debris. This step was crucial in preparing the space for detailed cleaning and treatment.

Next, we utilized a heavy-duty floor stripper to expedite the removal process of damaged tiles in the restrooms and stubborn carpet glue. With the demolition complete, we began the meticulous process of cleaning and treating the structure.

Detailed Cleaning and Treatment

We scraped any residual pieces of drywall and glue from surfaces and surface vacuumed the entire structure to remove debris. Then, we treated the floor and structure with an anti-microbial solution to prevent future mold growth. After a thorough wipe-down, we re-set our equipment to dry the newly exposed areas overnight.
