Pipe Burst in Oceanside: PuroClean of Clairemont’s Mitigation Mastery

Mold Restoration

When a copper pipe burst near the office of an Oceanside residence, it didn’t just leak water—it unleashed a potential health hazard by fostering microbial growth. Recognizing the urgency, PuroClean of Clairemont quickly dispatched a team led by Danny to manage the Category 2 water/mold loss, ensuring thorough containment and restoration.

Upon arrival, our crew, assessed the extent of the water damage, which had impacted both the dining room and the office. To prevent the spread of mold spores and water damage to unaffected areas of the house, we installed plastic barriers, effectively isolating the compromised zones.

Strategic Drying and Monitoring

Understanding the critical need to address both moisture and airborne particulates, our team set up one dehumidifier along with a HEPA air scrubber. This setup was crucial to remove humidity and filter out mold spores from the air. The equipment ran continuously over three days, with our crew returning daily to monitor the drying process and prepare for the necessary demolition of damaged materials.

Meticulous Demolition and Cleaning

With significant progress in moisture reduction, we began the careful demolition process. The HEPA air scrubber continued to play a vital role, minimizing dust and airborne mold spores to maintain a safe environment for our technicians. In the dining room, we removed the damaged architectural elements and flooring, including drywall, crown molding, baseboard, wainscoting, and vinyl flooring. The office required similar attention, with the removal of baseboards and affected drywall.

Detailed Cleaning and Mold Remediation

Once demolition was completed, we moved on to a meticulous cleaning phase. Every nail and screw was removed from the framing to ensure a thorough cleanup. The wood framing underwent sanding and wire brushing to remove any mold infestation thoroughly. We HEPA vacuumed all surfaces to eliminate any remaining dust, debris, and mold spores.

Following the physical cleaning, we treated all affected areas with an anti-microbial spray to combat potential microorganism growth and performed a comprehensive wipe-down of the structure.

Final Drying and Air Quality Testing

With the area cleaned, we repositioned our drying equipment to finalize the drying process. In preparation for an air quality test, we ensured that all particulate levels within the work zone were comparable to those exterior of the home. The successful air quality test marked the end of our active restoration efforts.

Restoration Complete and Ready for Repairs

By the next day, the drying goals were fully achieved, and the house was free of moisture and mold, ready for the final repair stages.
