When a dishwasher leak in a Poway home led to a Category 2 water loss, affecting the kitchen, dining room, and living room, PuroClean of Clairemont was quick to respond. A crew led by Daniel was dispatched to assess and address the extensive water damage, ensuring a swift and thorough restoration process.
Upon arrival, the team led by Daniel performed a detailed inspection and found significant water damage. The kitchen cabinetry was heavily saturated, indicating a substantial spread of water. To control the situation and prevent further damage, industrial-grade drying equipment was deployed, and plastic barriers were erected to isolate and contain the moisture within the affected areas.

Mitigation and Treatment
Our approach included placing one dehumidifier and five air movers in the kitchen and dining area, and four air movers in the living room, to create an optimal drying environment. The equipment ran continuously for three days, with our team monitoring progress daily. During this period, efforts were made to enhance drying efficiency, including removing toe kicks to better dry the cabinetry and disconnecting the dishwasher to improve airflow.
With significant progress in moisture removal, our crew began the demolition of unsalvageable materials. A HEPA air scrubber was installed to minimize dust and maintain air quality, protecting our technicians and the home environment. In the kitchen, the team removed cabinetry and performed a two-foot flood cut along the affected walls, carefully shoring up the countertops to avoid further damage. In the living room, a similar flood cut was made near the sliding glass door to remove wet drywall and insulation.

Detailed Cleaning and Final Drying
Following demolition, our focus shifted to detailed cleaning of the structure. Every nail and screw was removed from the framing to prepare for thorough sanitation. The entire area was HEPA vacuumed to eliminate all dust and debris. An anti-microbial spray was then applied throughout to clean and prevent future microorganism growth, followed by a full wipe-down of the structure.
After cleaning, we repositioned our drying equipment to ensure all newly exposed areas were thoroughly dry. By the next day, we confirmed that all materials had reached the required drying standards, and the home was ready for the final repairs.
