Can’t stand the heat? Well, neither can we! Somehow, our great state of Washington found itself outdoing the likes of Nevada and Arizona recently, and no one is happy about it. This heatwave brought unexpected record temperatures that make the previous highs seem laughable by comparison. Unfortunately, the heat brings along with it more than just a neat bit of trivia and a few uncomfortable days in the sun. Many local buildings are not able to withstand this sort of weather. One such building, a local homeless shelter, had its emergency sprinklers go off and flood the premises. Thankfully, they called us to mitigate the problem.
Coming Together to Help During the Heat
Most of us didn’t plan on experiencing 108 degree days when we chose Seattle as our home. While it is undoubtedly uncomfortable, our community experienced devastating consequences. In a local homeless shelter that also did not have any A/C, the heat was seemingly compounding. The preposterous swelter simulated the conditions necessary to set off the sprinkler system, resulting in a widespread flood in the facility. As many people in our community rely on the shelter, especially in these unique conditions, Our company understood that there was no time to waste cleaning up the water damage.
Our team rolled up and began drying the standing water on the ground. The first step we took was removing the ceiling panels to access the sprinkler heads and assure they were no longer an active source of leaking water. Then our technicians disposed of the debris that fell from the ceiling during the foods. Finally, we set up air movers throughout the facility, including inside the now exposed ceiling, to dry all the moisture.
This job occurred after hours, but that was definitely not going to pose an issue. This shelter provides an irreplaceable necessity to people who desperately need help. We rushed over and happily worked throughout the weekend to ensure this job was completed in as timely a manner as possible. We had the equipment and technicians ready to work their magic, but we were pleasantly surprised by something. The community all pitched in as well to help clean up the shelter. While they might not have had the training, they did pitch in wherever it was safe to do so, and in seemingly no time, the shelter was back up and running.
