Thirdhand Smoke: Cigarette Use Affects More than Just Your Health

At this point, we all know the health risks that come from smoking cigarettes. But, did you know the odor and smoke can have a lasting impact on more than just your lungs? Thirdhand smoke refers to the chemicals from nicotine that are left behind on inside surfaces. There’s a good reason most rental units and hotels have no-smoking policies. Attempting to cover the odor with candles or air fresheners might temporarily hide the problem, but the particles are still there, causing physical damage to the property.

Cigarette Smoking Odor – What Can You Do About It?

Cigarette smoke – so what do you do about it? The first and most important step is to call the professionals. There are many ways to hide the smell or discoloration, but you’ll need someone qualified and equipped to really solve the problem. At PuroClean, our trained technicians have the knowledge and skills to get the job done for you. Our process is divided into four operations, designed to tackle the issue. The first operation involves different chemicals.

For the second operation, we disinfect, deodorize, and finally, de-grease. This is where we rinse what we did in the first operation, while further deodorizing and disinfecting as well. This operation is performed on every surface in the house, from painted surfaces to appliances to wood surfaces to bathroom fixtures. No surface is left untouched.

The third operation involves a wet fogging application. This is a two-part process that takes advantage of good antiseptics, oxidizers, and disinfectants. And finally, all of this is followed up by the final operation: hot thermal fogging. This type of fogging uses a tobacco-specific formula to fully remove the odor from any remaining small spaces.
