A Fire That Put Itself Out? Now We Have Seen Everything

Fire Restoration

If a fire strikes a house, the priority of those in the home is escaping the blaze. After that, the next goal is to put out the flames. Typically, this usually requires the services of the local fire department and first responders or emergency sprinkler systems. However, when a house on the East Side of Terre Haute caught fire, the house seemingly extinguished the disaster on its own. While it might sound counterintuitive, this created a whole new set of problems.

Water and Fire Damage Strikes Together

The home belonged to a retired engineer and his wife. They had plans to host a party for Memorial Day, which was closely approaching at the time of the disaster. So, our crew quickly responded to their call and began inspecting their home to evaluate the damage.

The fire in the house originated in the attic, likely due to faulty electrical wiring within the attic’s floor. But, as we mentioned, these flames did not last. We inspected the property to discover that the flames actually burnt parts of the plumbing, causing the local pipes to flood the burning areas with water. This odd situation resulted in the property being subjected to water and fire damage simultaneously.

The flames charred the ceiling above the mudroom, as well as the electrical wiring and plumbing within. The insulation needed to be replaced, along with the pipes and wires. Then we were able to restore the drywall on the ceiling and the inside of the attic. Furthermore, the kitchen, entryway, and laundry room had a lot of water in them. There were some unique challenges for sealing the space to prevent insulation from blowing all over the house while we dried out the main floor.

Our technician, Caleb, did an excellent job of mitigating the water and fire damage and identifying an area of drywall that tunneled water from the ceiling. As a result, he and the team were able to remove the drywall, dry out the framing, and prevented any mold from growing in the future. We finished work right before Memorial Day and they were able to host their party as planned.
