Putting The Finishing Touches on a Major Fire Restoration in Streamwood

Fire Restoration

It’s always a good feeling to restore a home and help a family return to the comfort of their normal lives. Back in December of 2020, we published a blog about how we helped a single mother and her 3 children after their home caught fire in the middle of the night. At the time, we had just finished the initial board-up to their home, not even 24 hours after the fire was extinguished. We evaluated the damage and understood that their home needed a significant restoration that would take several months to complete. Fast forward to the present day, and we can happily say that their home is totally restored! Here is how it went down.

It Was Quite a Journey

A lot has changed in the months since we did the board-up. Back in December, the source of the fire was still unknown, and the estimates for the damage had the costs anywhere from $100-$150k. Well, we eventually got answers for the cause of the blaze, and the scope of the job became clearer over time. As it turns out, the fire started in the wood-burning chimney before it quickly grew dangerous.

Before we could focus on the reconstruction of the house, we had to evaluate the home’s contents and perform a pack-out. A pack-out is when we take inventory of all the affected contents and assess if they can be saved or need to be replaced. We then take these items to a secure location off-site, where they will be cleaned, restored, and safely stored until they can be returned to the home.

Our rebuild of the house took 6 months to complete. We began the process of acquiring necessary permits from local authorities before we could do any of the reconstruction. But once we got started, our team worked as efficiently as possible, actually finishing the job a full 2 weeks ahead of schedule. Once the inspectors cleared the property, the family was finally able to move back into their home. When it was all done, the final cost of the job was actually $282k.

This job gave us the opportunity to use our Matterport 3D camera to completely document the house before and after we did our restoration. This is a useful tool for assessing costs and for communicating with insurance companies. These interactive maps provide a detailed picture of how bad the damage was initially and the effectiveness of the restoration process.
