Water Damage Restoration in Dade City: Rescuing a Home that Had a Leaky Pipe

Recently, PuroClean Certified Restoration Specialists was called to restore a water-damaged property in Dade City, FL. The home suffered water damage and mold growth due to a leaky pipe that had not been fixed in time.

The client was a middle-aged couple with teenage children, and they needed their home fixed as soon as possible. Here’s how we provided water damage restoration in the Dade City home (and got rid of the mold growth, too).

The homeowners had a leak in their kitchen that they reported to their insurance a month and a half before calling us. Needless to say, because the insurance took so long, mold began to grow since the leak wasn’t fixed and the materials weren’t dried out in time. 

This particular job was challenging for a couple of reasons. First of all, the homeowners were hoping that the kitchen sink and cabinets wouldn’t need to be removed. Unfortunately, we needed to remove them so we could take out the wet flooring under them. 

What was also challenging was that three layers of flooring had to be removed. The first was the vinyl planking; the second was plywood (in the dining room) and hardwood (in the kitchen); and the third layer was also plywood, and underneath were cement slabs. 

As mentioned, the leak was not fixed in due time, so each layer of flooring was wet and had mold on it. The mold growth had to be eliminated, and we were prepared to do that using EPA-approved cleaners. 

But first, our team needed to contain the mold-affected area to keep the mold from contaminating the rest of the house. To accomplish that, the technicians built a large plastic sheeting containment that covered the entire length of the affected area. Because the ceilings were about 30 feet tall, we had to also make a plastic ceiling for our containment. 

Our technicians were able to come together to figure out how to make an excellent containment with a ceiling — and we’re proud of them!

Once we finished pulling all of the floorings up, a plumber came in to locate and fix the leak. The leak was coming from a small hairline crack in a pipe in the cement slab. After the pipe was fixed, we were able to remove and clean the affected materials so that the home could pass a mold test.

All in all, we were able to finish the work within a week. The homeowners were happy with the results and the timeframe, considering the extent of the water loss.
